چکیده

Spins, electromagnetic moments and radii are basic observables characterizing a particular nucleus. We review a variety of experimental techniques currently used to measure these quantities for unstable nuclei far from stability and for isomeric nuclear states. The experiments can be traced back to two different principles: Optical high-resolution spectroscopy reveals the interaction between nuclear moments and the electromagnetic fields produced by the shell electrons. On the other hand, βor γ-ray detection reveals the movement of nuclear spin systems in externally applied fields or hyperfine fields produced by a crystal lattice surrounding. The relevance of such measurements for nuclear structure research is discussed in connection with selected examples of results.

Nuclear Anapole Moments and the Parity-nonconserving Nuclear Interaction

The anapole moment is a parity-odd and time-reversal-even electromagnetic moment. Although it was conjectured shortly after the discovery of parity nonconservation, its existence has not been confirmed until recently in heavy nuclear systems, which are known to be the suitable laboratories because of the manybody enhancement. By carefully identifying the nuclear-spin-dependent atomic parity non...

Hyperfine structure of the metastable P2 state of alkaline earth atoms as an accurate probe of nuclear magnetic octupole moments

Measuring the hyperfine structure (HFS) of long-lived P2 states of divalent atoms may offer the opportunity of extracting relatively unexplored nuclear magnetic octupole and electric hexadecapole moments. Here, using relativistic many-body methods of atomic structure and the nuclear shell model, we evaluate the effect of these higher nuclear moments on the hyperfine structure. We find that the ...

Off-shell Corrections and Moments of the Deep Inelastic Nuclear Structure Functions

We present an improved method of handling off-shell effects in deep inelastic nuclear scattering. With a firm understanding of the effects of the nuclear wavefunction, including these off-shell corrections as well as binding effects and nucleon-nucleon correlations, we can begin to examine the role of QCD in nuclei through an analysis of the moments of the nuclear inelastic structure function F...

Nuclear Bag Model and Nuclear Magnetic Moments

In 1991, we proposed a model in which nucleus is=20 treated as a spherical symmetric MIT bag and nucleon satisfies the MIT bag model boundary condition. The model was employed to calculate=20 nuclear magnetic moments. The results are in good agreement with=20 experiment data. Now, we found this model is still interesting and=20 illuminating. ∗Email:[email protected]
